YNOT give us a wave, if you see the van out and about.

This is what happens when recessed down-lighters are covered with fiberglass insulation. The cables’ plastic insulation becomes brittle, and cracks when it gets too hot from the lamps’ heat, it then breaks away exposing the metal conductors inside. This can lead to electrical fires, unwanted tripping if the metal conductors short together, or even the risk of electric shock!

The solution is to surround the lamp housing with a down-lighter chimney. This keeps the loft insulation away from the lamp housing, and allows air flow around the lamp keeping it cool. The damaged cables have been cut off, and replaced.

Rubber grommet missing from cable entry point, causing damage to the cable insulation. The earth conductor has not been correctly sleeved, and the wires are too long. This can lead to unwanted tripping.

Red (L) and Black (N) wires are incorrectly connected, (The wrong way round), and the earth conductor has the wrong insulation covering it. This will cause any appliance plugged into this socket to remain live even when the switch is turned off.

Is this the best way to extend an earth wire? A length of 2.5mm RED (Live) multicore cable has been twisted to the single core earth wire to make it longer!
